Located near the city of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, the Desert National Park is among the largest national parks of India. Sprawled across an area of around 3162 sq km, the park is the finest example of the ecosystem of the vast Thar desert. It boasts of its unique variety of wildlife species.
The sand dunes shape about 20% park of this famous wildlife destination. It also has permanent dunes which make it an appropriate place for the animals like Chinkara to run speedily. The delicate ecosystem of the Thar desert maintains diverse wildlife species. The Sudashri post of the park is a perfect site to watch the wildlife.
The park provides shelter to many wildlife animals like Desert Fox, Bengal Fox, Desert Cat, Chinkara, Wolf and Black Buck. Living in difficult topography, these animals manage to survive there.
This famous national park is also known for its abundance of bird life. Great Indian Bustard which is a protected species of India is the prime bird attraction here. Other than this, you can also see Falcons, Sand Grouse, Vultures, Buzzards, Kites, Eagles, Harriers, Bee Eaters, Spotted Eagles, Kestrels and Tawny Eagles.
Different species of reptiles can also be found in the park. You can see reptiles like Desert Snakes, Monitor Lizards, Vipers, Spiny Tail Lizards and Sand Karaint.
Flora
Thar Desert has only few types of grasses, shrubs and xerophytes plants.
Golden Fort Jaisalmer (a magnificent historic structure) and the Havelis of Jaisalmer (mansions) are the prominent attractions of the place. Excellent in terms of carving and architecture, Nathmalji Ki Haveli, Patwon Ki Haveli, and Salim Singh Ki Haveli are the main attractions of the city.
