Renuka Lake
Perched at an altitude of 672 m above sea level, Renuka Lake is the most beautiful and the largest lake in Himachal Pradesh. Sprawling over an area of 2.5 km, the lake is located at a distance of 37 km from Nahan. Offering comfortable and beautiful accommodation options to tourists, the Renuka Ji hotel, run by the government of Himachal Pradesh, is ideally located on the banks of the lake. The lake is surrounded by the mysterious forests of the Himalayas, offering fascinating views of mother nature. Not only this, these forests are home to a variety of wildlife. There is a legend attached to the Renuka Lake. It goes that the lake comprises of Renukaji's embodiment, the wife of sage Jamadagini and the mother of Parshurama(the avatar of Lord Vishnu). Commemorating the immortality of Renukaji and Parshurama, the fair held at the lake every year in the month of November is visited by a large number of people from across the country. The fair stretches for seven days showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the place in the form of dance and music. The idols of Parshurama are carried out in decorated palanquins to the Parshuram Tal. Before placing the idols in the temple, they are washed in the holy lake Renuka, symbolizing the body of a mother. The temple is dedicated to Renukaji. It is believed that this 18th century temple was constructed overnight. A visit to Renukaji lake and the temple is truly a delightful experience.
Gayatri Temple
Located on the banks of Renuka Lake, Gayatri Temple houses a 1.60 m high marble statue of Panch Mukhi Ma Gayatri. The temple is dedicated to Ma Gayatri, the mother of the Great Hindu Vedas. The temple also houses the idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma and Lord Indra.
The Wildlife Park
A wonderful attraction near the Renuka lake is the wildlife park, which is home to the wildlife species such as lion, hob deer, sambhar, chital and barking deer.
Renuka Sanctuary
Located in the Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh, Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary provides shelter to a wide variety of wildlife. Tourists from far and wide come here for wildlife sightings. Some of the wildlife species found here are leopard, barking deer, jackal, red jungle fowl, chital, sambhar, spotted deer, jungle cat, hill crow, drongo, common coots, Black partridge, Palm civet.
Choordhar Peak
Elevated to a height of 3,647 m above sea level, the Choordhar Peak is a great place for trekking enthusiasts. Once you reach the peak you will be rewarded with the? fascinating views of the Gangetic plains, the Sutlej river and the north of Badrinath, a famous Hindu pilgrimage.
