Keylong, abounds in mountains and delightful ambience, and is located at an altitude of about 3340 m. This abode of God lies on the Indo-Tibetan border and, presently, is the head quarter of Lahaul and Spiti district in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Over the Rohtang Pass, surrounded with beautiful brown hills and snow dressed peaks, Keylong offers a marvellous view of lush green fields, willow trees and water streams.
This exciting land witnesses a huge crowd during the months of June to October. Keylong exhibits a strong influence of the Tibetan Culture. Barley, buckwheat, and potato fields are spread beautifully over the hills.
Shopping
Keylong is famous for fruits, rugs (namdas), footwear, tweeds, shawls, natural oils (olive and almond), metal craft, silver jewellery, bamboo products, woolen jackets and pullovers.
Adventure
The hills and valleys at Keylong are perfect locations for rock climbing, mountaineering, trekking, skiing and fishing. Several Mountaineering Institutes organise yearly competitions for the same.
Gondala
Gondala is a village of the Lama community, located about 18 km from Keylong. The village hosts an annual fair in the month of July, which is popular for the traditional music, dance and cultural performances of the Lamas. Situated on the right bank of Chandra river, Gondala has its historical importance as well. The Gondala Fort (built in 1700 A.D.) is an eight storey building that attracts numerous tourists.

Kardang Monastery (across the Bhaga river, founded in the 12th century; popular for a huge library of Kangyur and Tangyur volumes of Budhist scriptures)
Shashpur Monastery (famous for the paintings that depict the history of 84 Buddhas and the devil dance by the Lamas in June/July; established in the 17th century)
Tayul Gompa (one of the oldest monasteries of the valley; famous for the big statue of Guru Padmasamhava and a huge library)
Udaipur (Mrikula Devi temple)
Trilokinath Temple (sacred for Hindus as well as Buddhists)
By Air: Bhunter (165 km) is the nearest airport.
By Rail: The nearest railhead is at Jogindernagar, 280 km away.
By Road: Comfortable road and HPTDC services from Manali (115 km) and several other cities. The Rohtang Pass remains closed from November to June because of heavy snowfall.
